Flood of Fuel Injected Motocross Bikes Expected for 2009

By Dirck Edge

We have been talking about it for quite some time, and Suzuki came to market with a production fuel injected 450cc motocross bike last year, but it appears now is the time for the industry to embrace fuel injection of motocross machines.

The opening round of the Japanese Motocross series occurred a couple of weeks ago, and it traditionally previews production models from the major Japanese manufacturers. Interestingly, virtually every pre-production Japanese motocross bike on the track was fuel injected, both 250cc and 450cc, with the exception of the Yamahas. Suzuki is also apparently adding fuel injection to its 250cc model for 2009. Fuel injected motocross bikes do not carry much of a weight penalty, and they promise the potential for better fuel economy, lower emissions and easier tuning than traditional, carbureted models.
