Is Aprilia Next?

Is Aprilia Next?

By Dirck Edge

Since none of the Japanese manufacturers seem capable of posing a serious challenge to Honda in MotoGP, leave it to the Italians. Not just Ducati, either.

With Troy Bayliss getting podiums in MotoGP, we know that Colin Edwards is capable of the same. Edwards says he is happy with Aprilia, despite their struggles this year, and indicates that Aprilia may be on the verge of a break through with their MotoGP machine.

You may recall that the Aprilia Cube is the only three-cylinder, four-stroke in the MotoGP paddock -- the only one attempting to exploit the 10 kilogram weight advantage given to machines utilizing less than four cyclinders. With its pneumatic valves, and "fly-by-wire" controls, the Cube is the most high tech ride, as well.

Edwards is a pretty good development rider, and we're betting that Aprilia will start running near the front before too long. The Edwards/Haga combo might just push Honda in the same way Capirossi/Bayliss have with Ducati.
