Rossi Wins Suzuka MotoGP to Open New Four-Stroke Era

In wet conditions at Suzuka, Japan, the MotoGP era began with Honda's Valentino Rossi taking the win. Not surprisingly, the slippery track resulted in the four-strokes finding better traction and taking the top four positions. Finishing second was Suzuki's Akira Ryo, with Yamaha's Carlos Checa third. A large number of riders crashed and did not finish.
