I believe the saying is "old age and treachery", but it was "old age and motocross experience" that made the difference in the opening round of the AMA Supermoto Series 450cc class today at Laguna Seca, California.

Three retired motocrossers rode away from everyone, with Jeremy McGrath (Honda) taking the early lead over teammate Jeff Ward and KTM's Kurt Nicoll. McGrath and Ward have 15 supercross/motocross National championships between them, and Nicoll is a former World motocross champion.

McGrath appeared to be holding up Ward and Nicoll during the first half of the race, but they eventually passed him to finish first and second, respectively, with McGrath third.
