Ducati Introduces 2004 ST3

Ducati Introduces 2004 ST3

By Dirck Edge

All of Ducati's sport touring models have received refinements this year, particularly with regard to ergonomics, but also with regard to wind protection, instrumentation and lighting. Of greatest interest is the ST3, featuring the new Ducati 992cc three-valve engine. This liquid-cooled, electronically fuel-injected design also has two spark plugs per cylinder. It is a completely new engine from Ducati, which Ducati claims has the torque characteristics at low rpm of a two-valve engine, with the peak power and performance at high rpm of a four-valve engine. The engine is rated at 102 horsepower.

Other notable changes to the ST line (which are included in the ST3) include much better headlights (class leading road illumination, according to Ducati), entirely new instrumentation (with almost countless features available from the simple, two-button system), a new, more comfortable seat, and height adjustable handlebars (taking the machine from sporty ergonomics to sport tourer ergonomics in a matter of minutes).
