This weekend’s double-header (with full, points-paying main events on both Saturday and Sunday) at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course will be critical for Suzuki’s Mat Mladin and Kawasaki’s Eric Bostrom, currently first and second in the AMA Superbike championship points race. Mladin has a twenty-four point lead over Bostrom, but Bostrom has won the last two Superbike races and is red hot.
Mladin is attempting to gain his third consecutive AMA Superbike championship for Suzuki, but Bostrom is riding aggressively and well on his Al Ludington-tuned Kawasaki superbike. Indeed, Bostrom has consistently outperformed Doug Chandler, his Kawasaki teammate and three-time AMA Superbike champion.
Both Mladin and Bostrom have displayed excellent consistency this year. A DNF (for a mechanical problem or a crash) is unlikely on either side of the aisle, and this championship should come down to a fierce battle between the two riders. Bostrom already has a huge points lead in the 600 Supersport championship, and is looking to become champion in both Supersport and Superbike classes this year.
