As expected, Ducati has just introduced the 749 Testastretta, with a version of the new engine designed originally for the Ducati Superbike, as well as the new chassis featured in the Ducati 999.
Featuring essentially the same chassis and engine solutions recently debuted in the 999, such as asymetrical exhaust system and adjustable rider ergonomics, the 749 also squeezes an additional six horsepower out of its new engine (a claimed 103 horsepower versus last year’s 97 horsepower), as well as an additional three pounds feet of torque.
The Ducati 748 will remain in the line-up, but Ducati will race the new 749 in Supersport competition, where Ducati expects to be competitive, once again, with the latest Japanese 600s.
We are hoping to get an opportunity to test the 749 early next year. At this point, we do not know price or availability date for the United States market.
