Is This It For Anthony Gobert?

With Cycle News reporting that Anthony Gobert has been fired by his AMA Superbike team, Ducati Austin, you have to wonder how he will bounce back from this.

The brash oldest brother of the racing Goberts (brothers Aaron and Alex are also involved in AMA roadracing), has ridden a roller coaster during his career, that has included stints at the World championship level (where he has won races), all the way down to drug-related suspension from competition.

Along the way, Anthony Gobert has also had more than his fair share of conflict with his own teams. Although, obviously a great talent, he can sometimes be his own worst enemy.

Getting back on a Ducati this year was supposed to be his salvation. He has always ridden Ducati superbikes well, but he, and the Ducati Austin team appeared to be caught off guard by the speed of the Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000 (piloted by Mat Mladin and Aaron Yates), as well as the highly-developed Honda RC51s and the always-fast Eric Bostrom on his aging Kawasaki. This surely lead to frustration on the part of Gobert and his team, and may have had something to do with his termination. We will have to wait for more details to emerge.

In any event, Anthony Gobert is still one of the great talents in motorcycle roadracing, and we doubt he will be overlooked by the many teams expected to roll out new 1000cc four-cylinder superbikes next year.
