Triumph Responds to Benelli’s TNT with Bigger-Displacement Speed Triple

Up until this year, Triumph had the market for three-cylinder naked bikes cornered. Its’ Speed Triple was the only game in town.

Released in mid-2004, the 1130cc three-cylinder Benelli TNT may have stolen some of Triumph’s thunder (not to mention sales). The TNT uses a larger-displacement version of the Benelli Tornado superbike motor, and the enthusiast press was wowed by the naked Benelli’s powerful thrust.

Triumph will strike back for 2005 with an updated Speed Triple featuring a 1050cc version of the current motor (a 10% increase in displacement). A little extra oomph may be just what the Speed Triple needs. Keep your eye on MD for specs and official photos next week.
