The 2005 AMA Supercross series moved to Phoenix tonight for its second round, and gave fans their first chance to see the riders on a dry track. Unfortunately for those expecting to see James Stewart battling up front in the 250cc class, the popular Kawasaki rider went down in practice and missed the race with a reported broken bone in his forearm.
In the 125cc class it was Suzuki’s young gun Broc Hepler who was first at the checkered flag, chased home by defending west coast 125cc champ Ivan Tedesco (Kawasaki). Third place went to Ryan Sipes (Suzuki).
In the 250cc main event it was all Ricky Carmichael (Suzuki). Carmichael led the pack into the first turn, and was able to fend off an early challenge by Kevin Windham (Honda) and pull out a comfortable lead before the finish. Windham was second, and third went to Chad Reed (Yamaha), who fought back from a poor start to make his way onto the podium.
