Chad Reed Picks Up the Pace

Former AMA Supercross champ Chad Reed (Yamaha) served warning last evening in Anaheim that he will not hand James Stewart (Kawasaki) the 2007 Supercross crown. Reed and Stewart battled furiously throughout the main event, with Stewart hounded all the way to the checkered flag by Reed after the two exchanged aggressive passes earlier in the race.

Apparently recovered from injuries suffered during a practice crash just prior to the start of the AMA series, Reed has all of his speed back. Stewart and Reed posted fastest laps during the main event that were virtually identical. Reed’s first race in Canada a few months ago (where he seemed to easily run Stewart’s pace — and won the race) now comes to mind as Reed appears ready to challenge Stewart during the weekends where Ricky Carmichael is not racing. Stay tuned — this AMA Supercross series is far from over.
