High altitude and high temperatures took their toll on men and machinery at the Thunder Valley round of the AMA Motocross championship series today. In the Motocross class, James Stewart (Kawasaki) eked out the overall victory with 4/2 moto scores, while Mike Alessi (KTM) finished second overall (3/3) and Andrew Short (Honda) third (2/4). Stewart faded after leading both motos, while still feeling the effects of his heavy crash at Unadilla during the prior round of the series.
In the Lites class, championship contenders and teammates Ben Townley and Ryan Villopoto (both with Kawasaki) split moto wins and second place finishes. Townley takes the overall by virtue of winning the second of the two motos. Josh Grant finished third overall with 3/4 moto wins on his Honda.
Stewart leads the Motocross series championship, while Townley and Villopoto remain tied on points in the Lites series. For additional details, results and points, visit the official AMA Motocross site here.
