Max Biaggi (Suzuki) and Troy Bayliss (Ducati) each took a win and a second place finish at the Vallelunga round of the WSB championship today (Biaggi won Race 1, while Bayliss won Race 2). Points leader James Toseland (Honda) finished in third position in Race 1, but crashed, remounted and was only able to finish 11th in Race 2. In Race 2, the podium was filled out by Noriyuki Haga in third.
Toseland missed an opportunity to clinch this year’s WSB title one round early today, and must wrap up the title at the final round in Magny Cours next weekend. He carries a 29 point lead over second place Max Biaggi going into the final round, with 50 points available at that round. If he wins the first race at Magny Cours, he is champion, otherwise, he could finish fifth in each race and take the title regardless of where his competitors place.
