Can someone please explain to me why shield fogging is still an issue?!? we know fog-free shields exist (eg. Scorpion, Icon, Suomy, etc). why do the industry heavies (Shoei, Arai, HJC) continue to use material that fogs up? Are fog-free coatings dangerous or something?

Very nice review.

For some to say "Arai or Shoei or nothing" is plain arragant and ignorant. They're not just overpriced but also overrated.

First and foremost, the helmet that fits you the best is actually the best one. An ill fitting helmet, even one with the best reptation, will not protect your head worth a flip.

I've had 2 Shoeis (RF-1000) and didn't like the fit or ventilation. I also don't believe the buffeting or lift was any less with their built in spoiler. I've had an Arai Quantum and didn't like the fit, ventilation and noise. I also hated the visor system. I've had a few HJCs (AC-10, AC-11 and Symax). The HJCs fit me the best and had less noise. Ventilation was about the same but I never had rain inside my visor. I never had rain inside the visor with the Arai either BTW.

I raced in the ACs and the Shoei. Only had 1 crash at the races and that was with the AC-10. Basically scraped up the helmet and shield and a minor impact that was more cosmetic than anything. Held up quite well. My HJCs were always comfortable, the eyeports seem to be larger than most others and the build quality was excellent compared to the Shoei and Arai.

I have to say that HJC makes an excellent helmet for the money and I value my head a great deal. Unfortunately, new HJC helmets are not fitting my head shape the past 2 years so I haven't bought a new one. They must have changed their shapes in recent years. I don't think my head changed. So I now have a Scorpion EXO-1000 which fits very well. Unfortunately, it's the noisiest helmet I've bought in 23 years.

I will probably be buying the Shoei Qwest. I'm looking for a quiet helmet. This one does pretty well in the review's I've read.

I have a 6+ year old Arai Astral.. Best fitting helmet ever. I love it still, even though the trim is falling off. But I hate HATE the piece of sh!t shield swap system. Super Adsis I think they call it. If your "system" involves a lot of flexing plastic it is not good for the long run.

I have to agree with RedDog. When Arai and Shoei came on the scene and everyone said "Bell or nothing!" do you think they should still stand by their word? All I'm saying is that - damn the HJC passed SNELL, it's well built, it's NOT cheap, but some of you would pass it up because of a brand name? Think about that for a little while...

I had an Arai that fit my round noggin well, a size XL Quantum that gave it's life protecting my life. The helmet liner gave me a mohawk and the worlds crappiest shield removal system broke completely off. I sent it in for repairs and all was okay until the next week when the whole side pod broke off. Arai is great, 20 years ago. Shoei is better but they don't have a great fit for me anymore and the prices have gotten a bit much. Shark RSR2 is the best helmet I have ever seen and gets my vote. For someone to say to only get Shoei or Arai is ignorant and an indication of living in the past.

Since others are raving about their Arai helmets(too pricy for me), I'll just say we wear Nolan helmets and couldn't be happier. I used to have a $100 head, but now it's become a $200 head. Unfortunately I test crash some of my helmets and have never been disappointed. I used to wear Shoeis but they got too pricy for my tastes. My Nolans ventilate well and are waterproof in the rain. The pinlock lense setup works better for fog than anything else I've ever tried. To each their own..........
