Maybe my memory is fading but I don’t remember Rossi being this full of himself and having over the top celebration antics when he was at the same point in his MotoGP career as Lorenzo (or LorenTHo) is. No doubt Rossi has a big head now but he’s earned it. I think Lorenzo/LorenTHo needs a few more winning seasons under his belt before he can act like this.

I don’t disagree with your comments. It is his cockiness and self confidence that seem ot seperate him from those who came before, and couldn’t get over the Rossi hump. That self confidence is what makes him immune to the Rossi head games.

Still, he is cocky, and as someone pointed out below, he just doesn’t seem like a very likeable person in his interviews. If that’s the attitude and personna he needs, in order to keep himself on the top, I don’t begrudge him the right to act that way. However, if he’s going to act that way, he needs to understand he’ll never be beloved like Rossi. Winning brings respect, and I have great respect for the guy. His riding style is a thing of beauty. But I don’t believe I’ll ever be able to root for him to win.

It’s just like old times, Rossi helps build a winning bike and then moves on to the next bike that needs work. Lorenzo is just reaping Rossi’s work with Yamaha. If Rossi wasn’t hurt this year no doubt he would have won AGAIN. Let’s just keep watching to see how long it will take Lorenzo to win as many races and titles as Rossi.

Agreed. Follow anyone around with a camera for a week and you can put together a short video that will make them seem like a nut, if that’s the impression you want to convey. Or you could leave that footage on the floor and make them seem like a saint. Controversy sells stories.

How can we judge the personality of a person who is a champion because he is seconds, or sometimes tenths of a second, ahead of the rest. How much of an ego is required to do that consistently? These guys are interviewed seconds after pushing the worlds best motorcycles to the absolute limit, and we have the audacity to call them “too intense”? Try this; drink a couple energy drinks, drive as fast as you can around your favorite loop, then have your friend interview you as soon as you get off your bike. Are you the cool, happy go lucky hero you want to be? Bottom line, give ‘em a break; these guys are freakin awesome and we are so lucky to enjoy them. The storylines for next year are pure hollywood; can’t wait!

I think many (including myself) dislike Lorenzo not because he acts the same way Rossi sometimes does, but because of his actual personality off the race track. I’ve seen a few interviews and a mini-documentary and he’s never come across as a very likable person. Rossi has fun, but is also considerate and a very good sportsman. Lorenzo just has a “I’m better than you” attitude. I do have to cut him some slack, however, because that attitude is at least rather earned.

i think this sport does well with a little conflict, both on and off the track. makes it more exciting anyway; a press release here, a less than stellar pass on the inside there….

I agree with the others, not fond of Lorenzo’s style at all either. The same thing happened when Rossi came along too – they were both brash and cocky, but somehow Rossi was more playful and Lorenzo is more arrogant. Regardless, it was incredible to see him come from behind and scrap his way all the way up to the front, especially with that save! Not so much to see him pout and shake his head when his bad passing attempt on Simoncelli were blocked. Reminds me of that other sneaky Spaniard Pedrosa… Anyway I think we can all agree that this was a great season and it’s shaping up to be an outrageous one next year. GO SPIES!!!

I’m a Jorge Lorenzo fan and am not quite sure why so many people find him cocky. Everyone seems to find Rossi’s post-race antics as cute but if Lorenzo does anything he’s somehow labeled a jerk. Anyway, he’s a hell of a rider and I’m definitely looking forward to the two battling it out on rival squads next year. Hopefully Stoner and Spies can step it up to make racing even more interesting.

Now if they will just hurry up and get this year’s race coverage out on blu-ray…

As good as Rossi is and has been for many years I found the racing mostly boring. Lorenzo has brought a new edge to it and makes it enjoyable again. I had hoped Pedrosa would have been more of a threat but, “Oh well!”.
