Silverstone MotoGP Results

Casey Stoner (Honda) won his third MotoGP in a row today at the Silverstone circuit and takes the points lead in the championship series.  In wet conditions, Stoner dominated the field by finishing more than 15 seconds ahead of Andrea Dovizioso (Honda).  A plucky Colin Edwards (Yamaha) took third place despite his recent broken collarbone.

Stoner has been allowed to finish five of the six races this year (thanks to a lowside by Valentino Rossi at Jerez), and has won four of those (he also has four poles), while finishing on the podium in the fifth.  He now has a commanding points lead in the series thanks, in part, to a DNF by Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha) who was one of the riders going down on the slippery track (the others being Honda’s Marco Simoncelli and Yamaha’s Ben Spies).

  1. Glen says:

gO Colin! Can’t believe he got a podium right after the first major injury in his career! I cant wait until INDY! Got my Plane tix, hotel resv & SW Vista seats in my pocket!

  2. Steve says:

I was hoping Simoncelli & Lorenzo would have stayed in the race… Lorenzo might have caught up to Stoner & pressured him a bit… although I prefer that Stoner win.
Only 1/3 of the season is over…. It looks like there are a few capable & hungry riders that will challenge Stoner… Simoncelli, Spies, Rossi & Davisioso…
Is Pedrosa out for the season or just a few races?

  3. Bob says:

I didn’t see the race either.

  4. Mickey says:

Holy crap these guys ride fast in the rain. Masterful race by Stoner. Nice 3 way dual by Divisioso, Lorenzo & Simoncelli. Hayden should pray for rain at every race. Good on Colin who I had written off 3 years ago (and consider this a fluke). Hope Spies’s back is ok.

2 more weeks..sigh! Maybe it will be dry, Spies will be healthy and Danny will be back.

  5. kpaul says:

Move over Rossi there is new champion who can ride in the rain and the Ducati. His name is Casey Stoner. Stoner! Stoner! Stoner!

  6. Stinky says:

Way to go Colin! Hope next year is less of a Honda procession.

    • Doc says:

You’re kidding, right? It’s been a Yamaha procession the last few years.

      • Ruefus says:

Procession would suggest there’s been no passing. I couldn’t care less what they’re on.

Indy Car is a procession by that measure. Same chassis, same engine, same tires…..procession. Great racing for those paying attention, though.

Edwards was amazing. 13 pins in his shoulder and the guy scores a podium. Nice.

    • MGNorge says:

I think true colors are starting to show through. If you read between the lines you can tell the brand of machine means more than some let on. I happen to look closely at hardware and happen to follow Honda closest. But to say it’s been a procession is hard to fathom when it’s been Yamaha at the front of the pack for awhile now. Ducati has had a go too. Honda had seemingly been in a lull the past few years, it’s nice to see them get their wings. That’s racing.
