Simoncelli Will Test Honda 1000cc Prototype at Motegi

Having just signed a contract extension with San Carlo Honda Gresini assuring him of a factory bike, Marco Simoncelli has been given the green light to test the 2012 1000cc prototype following the Motegi race this weekend.  You may recall that Simoncelli is the largest and heaviest of the MotoGP riders, and he has complained at times of a disadvantage to the lighter riders on the 800cc machines.  The 1000cc bikes should erase any disadvantage and, perhaps, his added weight could assist traction exiting corners on the bigger bikes which are much more prone to spinning.  Although electronics control rear wheel spin these days, the heavier rider could allow a higher threshold before electronics cut power on corner exits.

For every seven static pound reduction is = to +1 rwhp

  2. b.wingate says:

It’s insane how small these riders are. I’m a lanky fella, at 6’1″ and 165, I don’t know how I would fit on one of those bikes!

  3. monsterduc1000 says:

According to the moto gp site, Pedrosa is a WHOPPING 112 lbs (51kg)!!! Simoncelli is the heaviest at 167 lbs (76kg). 55 lbs is quite a bit.

There are a few riders that are within a couple kg of Pedrosa as well.

  4. MGNorge says:

If Simo is at such a disadvantage concerning the lighter other riders then it is testiment of how powerful the Hondas are.

  5. Mickey says:

Simo is a stick. How much weight could he be giving up to Pedrobot …20 pounds?

  6. bikerrandy says:

“he has complained at times of a disadvantage to the lighter riders”……..like I’m sure he did in the 250 class too.

  7. Bill V says:

He could lose some weight if he got a haircut.

  8. Booyaaa says:

they should contract that guy in the photo testing the ducati prototype to ride a 1000cc motogp bike then. by the looks of his heft, he should rocket out of the corners!

  9. The Baron says:

Is he heavier than Bens Pies? Peter Geran wants to know.
