HOMESTEAD, Fla. (March 19, 2012) – In advance of the Big Kahuna Miami (September 21 – 23, 2012), AMA Pro Road Racing’s first return to Homestead-Miami Speedway since 1996, America’s premier professional motorcycle road racers will get a chance to shake down their machines in a two-day Official Series Test beginning tomorrow, March 20, 2012. The two-day test, which is open to the public for free, will include track time for from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a 60-minute lunch break, media availability and will be staffed by M1 PowerSports staff members and AMA Pro Racing competition and timing and scoring personnel.

“We’re at Homestead-Miami Speedway this week preparing for our September event with some of the best North American and Latin American riders in the AMA Pro Road Racing Championship,” said Cameron Gray, CEO of M1 PowerSports, promoter of the Big Kahuna Miami. “The entire staff of Homestead-Miami Speedway and the surrounding community have been very supportive and welcomed us with open arms. Miami is a huge sport bike market and is a very attractive location for our Triumph Big Kahuna Triple Crown.”

Fans are invited to come out to the Speedway to enjoy the beautiful South Florida weather and get up close and personal with top riders from each of the four classes of AMA Pro Road Racing: AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike, AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike, AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport and the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series. Parking and paddock access are free and fans will have the opportunity to meet and greet the riders in the main paddock area and watch the riders navigate the turns of the infield road course from the Speedway’s great viewing areas, including VIP locations such as the rooftop of the garages.

There will be at least 50 riders in attendance, and the entry list includes both National Guard SuperBike race winners from last weekend’s finals at the season-opening DAYTONA® 200 Week event, Josh Hayes (No. 1 Monster Energy Graves Yamaha YZF-R1) and Blake Young (No. 79 Yoshimura Racing Suzuki GSX-R1000). Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport race winners James Rispoli (No. 1 Celtic Racing/Orient Express Racing Suzuki GSX-R600) and Elena Myers (No. 21 SuzukiScoopFans.com/ SportbikeTrackGear.com Suzuki GSX-R600) will also be in attendance. Myers became the first female to win a professional motorsports race in Daytona International Speedway’s long and illustrious history with her SuperSport Race 2 victory on Saturday.

Colombian Martin Cardenas (No. 36 GEICO Suzuki GSX-R600) and Venezuelan Robertino Pietri (No. 3 Team Venezuela Suzuki GSX-R1000) will be in attendance as well. The teams for both Latin American superstars receive technical support from Team Hammer, which successfully fielded 2012 DAYTONA® 200 pole position winner Cardenas in his 2007 FIM Latin American Supersport Championship-winning season. Venezuelan Pietri won the 2006 Venezuelan National Superbike Championship and the 2006 FIM Latin American Superbike Championship on a Suzuki GSX-R1000 also prepared and crewed by Team Hammer. Tomas Puerta (No. 12 RoadRace Factory Yamaha YZF-R6) and Stefano Mesa (No. 37 Kneedragger.com Yamaha YZF-R6) will be representing AMA Pro Road Racing’s young and fast Latin American contingent in the AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport division.

The world-class racing action put on by the AMA Pro Road Racing riders alone is enough to hook first-time fans, but M1 PowerSports promotes events with the goal of providing ticketholders with more than just a motorcycle race. When the series returns to South Florida for the Big Kahuna Miami, fans can expect to see their favorite AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike, Daytona SportBike, Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport and Vance & Hines XR1200 riders attack the track while enjoying non-stop activities, attractions and entertainment at a first-rate motorsport facility. The family-friendly event schedules create a truly unique experience for both the devoted fan and the beginning spectator and will feature activities such as stunt show performances, on-track fan laps, large expo areas with merchandise and displays, an open grid walk during opening ceremonies where fans can rub elbows with their favorite riders, a free autograph session and much more.
