Hopefully Piaggio will see the need to add dealers, quality dealers. But Moto Guzzis have a low volume brand. The trick is to appeal to riders with deep pockets. These, like other bikes aren't cheap but neither are Harleys and they enjoy good volumes even in a downturn.

What, no white walls?

I've owned nine Guzzis. Four still live in the garage. I've never like Californias. Looks like that's not about to change any time soon. 750 lbs. Mooo. Flagship? Really? Well, I get the "ship" part.

What Guzzi really needs in the USA is a dealer network.

First ride reviews are appearing and I think Piaggio have nailed it with the bike. Big news really seems to be the engine suspension system. Allows the motor to stay smooth chugging away at no revs while still having enough cam in it to make some power up top - rare trick for a big twin. Just enough Italian sense of proportion and line to cause desire and comfortable in a full size American way.

Now watch their next to non-existent dealer network ruin it for them. Sad but true, with apologies to the few knowledgable and diligent MG dealers that still exist.

The Norge has much more snap at low and mid range. It doesn't have the top end rush of the FJR, but I have an Aprilia RSV4 which is in another league altogether if I need a rush. The Norge has a bit less wind protection than the FJR, but that's actually better in warm weather, and not much worse in the cold. Through the twisites, I feel the Norge has a better suspension set up than the FJR and is notably more settled when hitting mid-corner bumps. I rode the previous version (2V) Norge also, and the new model has better instrumentation which is also easier to read. Engine heat management is also better. Lastly, the Norge is a much better conversation starter than an FJR, though that may mean little to some. People are very interested in Moto Guzzis when they see them. On my way to the MotoGP in Indianapolis people were taking photos of the Norge at a gas station while I was inside paying. That never happened on the FJR. Not a big deal, but made the ride interesting.

Because Guzzi's are quirky anyway, I think they should spell it 'Kalifornia'. I quite like it, but I'll have to see it in person, sit on it, read reviews, etc. As I am prone to doing, I immediately began fantasizing about one in my garage. But I'm sure it will cost a LOT and I'd have to sell a couple bikes to pay for it, probably including my beloved Guzzi 1200 Sport, and my turquoise/black Valkyrie Tourer. The latter, aside from not having all the electronics of newer bikes (much of which I'm not so sure about anyway), is IMO still the best bagger out there anyway, and probably the equal or better of the California across the board. So I guess I better put my fantasies aside for now...

I'm a Harley rider. Will always be, in fact I have a 2010 Roade Glide Custom (FLTRX) My son pointed this bike out to me and said it was in his future. After a close look and reading the reviews one might be in my future, too. NO, I will never give up my Harley....
