Yamaha MT-10: Is Yamaha Bringing Its Fastest-Ever Naked to the U.S. Market?


Maybe, but not this model year. Yamaha has finished introducing its 2016 models, and the new naked featuring the R1 engine is not among them. The Yamaha press department is officially saying “no comment” when asked if the MT-10 will eventually make its way to the U.S.

In the meantime, the bike will be in European showrooms in a couple months, with full pricing and specifications released earlier this week. Those specs are mouthwatering -160 housepower in a 460 pound (claimed wet weight) chassis. Not your typical “detuned” naked, although Yamaha brought peak horsepower down from the R1 a bit, and delivers it at lower rpm (11,500 rpm).     After hearing one at the track with that sound / exhaust and such… I’m in… Custom headlights will be available knowing most don’t care for the original.

    Make this naked bike without all the stupid plastic crap on it, I would buy one in a second. The original VMax was a bike I wanted, but fake air scoops?

    Are “naked” bikes less naked than they used to be? What’s with all the plastic covers? Seems naked should be just that — devoid of any coverings.

      Because when you do that, people complain about how ugly the frame and engine are.

        and plumbing. I can’t believe how worked up people get about plumbing. Got to go somewhere and if you remove the plastic there’s no place to hide it. That’s what makes air cooled bikes so beautiful.

    Interesting that they claim this bike is not a retuned/detuned version of the R-1 when it is exactly that.

    I LOVE the idea of this bike. But why did they have to make it so horrendously Fugly? It is a double-bagger … one goes over my head and the other over the bike … in case one of the bags comes off.
