F##K around……lay around. You’d think he would know better at 38! Too bad, but I don’t feel sorry for someone that seems to look for ways to injure himself and jeopardize his main championship goals.

  2. Jeremy in TX says:

That sucks, both for the season as this removes a very viable championship contender and for Rossi and his fans as he chased #10.

  3. VLJ says:

My first thought upon reading this was, “April Fools joke.” Then I remembered we’re in the middle of summer.

    Crap.

    *sigh*

oh for the love o’ God, after a certain age just leave out the dirt bike training already. you never saw Sheene training MX, he was too busy smoking, drinking, and making time with the ladies.

    • Dino says:

Sheene… “my favorite bit of racing?? well, that would be the crumpet I suppose!”

      Ahh, the good old days!

  5. Neil says:

Same one he broke before and tib fib like before. Not good. One has to train but I know a cyclist who is VERY fast after hard gym cardio and some calisthenics. I don’t think off road moto X and enduros are absolutely necessary. Neil Hodgson etc etc.

  6. Mick says:

I am confused. The reports seem to exchange motocross and enduro like they are the same thing. Was he riding an enduro bike at a motocross track? Or was he riding a woods loop that is located around a motocross facility? Me not get.

  7. Matt G says:

I sure hope that this doesn’t mean an end to a truly storied career. I know I would certainly rather go out on a high note rather than with an injury. Knowing “The Doctor” though, I doubt that we have seen the last of him.

  8. Tim C says:

I am sure he’s actually more irritated by this than any of us are.

That said, JESUS, MARY, AND JOSEPH!

  9. Dino says:

probably not the same kind of injury, but I seem to recall Miguel Duhamel hobbling to his bike on crutches, then taking a very good race at Daytona some years ago…

If anyone else can do it, I’m sure the Doctor will try! Speedy recovery VR!!!

    • Randy D. says:

I believe that was the `99 Daytona 200. I was there in the stands. Could see him hobbling around with a cane in the pits. He WON the race, as I recall!!

      • Jabe says:

He won both the Supersport and Superbike races. He broke his femur the season before. I recall reading the story, something about how surgeons had to clean asphalt out from the end of his broken femur, just to give you an idea how bad the crash was. Amazing recovery.

    • Norm G. says:

our man Nicky did the same, crutched his way around the inaugural grandprix at Indianapolis in ’09.

  10. Pacer says:

    Who gets to fill in?

  11. EGS says:

Terrible news! Season over. With both bones broken it’ll be a couple months before he can even move let alone train. At 38 one has to wonder if he’ll have the motivation to come back to MotoGP.

it’s Ross, he’s dug in to MotoGP like an “Alabama tick”. (Jesse Ventura voice)

    • CMH says:

Recall Rossi raced ~ 43 days after a similar injury in 2010. Granted he’s older. But that’s barely more than a month singular and less than two plural. Let’s hope he can heal as fast this time around.

  12. Brinskee says:

Damn what crummy news this is. He’ll be out for weeks and weeks with this. I know these guys need to train hard but do they have to train that hard during the season? I’m afraid Rossi’s quest for a 10th is probably totally gone. He’s just getting too old and there are too many young guns there to take it from him, not to mention manufacturers providing those riders with bikes that can really compete. Get well soon VR46 and give me hell when you return.

    Rest of the World: “Noooooooooo!!!”

    Maverick Vinales: “Yeeeeaaaahh!!!!!”

Johann Zarco: “Please retire, please retire, please retire….”

San Marino Circuit Management: “Defcon 5!! No one answer any calls. We’re not offering refunds!!”

OMG, Norm’s got steaming french vanilla coffee coming out his nose…!!!

it’s funny, but it’s not pretty. LOL

Geez, what a bummer. No chance of a 10th this year. Get well soon Val.
