2018 Yamaha X-MAX 125 – Desire what you need

Yamaha continues to be regarded as one of the most influential and innovative manufacturers in the Sport Scooter segment, having led the way ever since the introduction of the original TMAX.

The iconic TMAX forever changed the image of the scooter, and has gone on to totally dominate the sport market for nearly two decades. Its remarkable success was followed up with the development of Yamaha’s X-MAX range of sport scooters, and the MAX line is now firmly established as one of Yamaha’s best selling ranges.

With their premium quality and dynamic style – combined with a superb balance of sports performance, excellent comfort and everyday functionality – the X-MAX models are appreciated by those highway commuters who value Yamaha quality combined with a distinctly Euro centric design flair.

For the 2018 model year, Yamaha will introduce a newly designed, higher specification version of the ever-popular X-MAX 125 that has enriched the lives of over 140,000 customers since 2006. Designed and engineered with pure and undiluted MAX DNA, the latest X-MAX 125 joins the highly successful X-MAX 300 and X-MAX 400 to complete the latest family of X-MAX models.

Along with the flagship TMAX maxi scooters, Yamaha now offer the strongest ever line of sport scooters that cover the market from the entry-level 125cc sector right through to the high-end 530cc performance models. The new X-MAX 125 offers urban and suburban commuters a stylish, convenient and economical way to beat the city traffic – and because it can be ridden by anyone with an A1 license, it is the easiest and most accessible entry into the world of sport scootering.

2018 X-MAX 125: 125cc capacity, MAX experience

The Yamaha X-MAX 125 is designed for today’s discerning urban commuters who are looking for a premium scooter experience that makes every journey so much more enjoyable.

With total sales of over 140,000 units since its launch, the X-MAX 125 gives every A1 license holder the opportunity to experience the same iconic MAX style, design and technology that can be found in the larger capacity X-MAX 300 and 400 models.

Dynamic and compact sports bodywork

With their sporty dual headlights, premium finish and bold boomerang motifs, Yamaha X-MAX scooters possess a unique identity that makes them instantly recognizable on the streets of Europe.

For 2018 the new X-MAX 125 features an even more dynamic design that has been inspired by the latest generation X-MAX 300 and X-MAX 400 models. Sporty dual LED headlights and LED position lights underline the forceful MAX family look, and the high quality feel is complemented by the fitment of LED taillights and guide lights.

Shaped by pure MAX DNA, this bold and confident new look underlines the compact and sporty lines of this successful 125cc sport scooter, and also reinforces the strong family image that unites the X-MAX range.

Premium quality with a class-leading specification

The current X-MAX 125 is already regarded as one of the highest quality sport scooters, and its class leading specification now includes an even more dynamic look that’s inspired by the latest X-MAX 300 and X-MAX 400.

Together with its LED lighting and a new Traction Control System as well as a convenient Smart Key keyless ignition, the 2018 X-MAX 125 offers more than ever before – giving every rider the opportunity to start with the best.

New Traction Control System (TCS)

In order to offer every rider the highest degree of control in varying conditions, the new X-MAX 125 is fitted with a Traction Control System (TCS) as standard equipment. Electronic sensors constantly monitor the rear wheel, and if any wheel spin is detected, the system immediately reduces drive force until traction is regained.

The electronic TCS used on the X-MAX 125 is similar to the system used on the X-MAX 300 and X-MAX 400 models, and by enhancing control and stability in wet or slippery conditions, it reinforces rider confidence.

Powerful and economical 125cc, EU4-compliant engine

At the heart of this Sport scooter there’s a single cylinder liquid-cooled SOHC 125cc 4-stroke EU4-compliant engine that gives the X-MAX 125 lively acceleration away from the traffic lights – together with a strong cruising speed on the highway or ring road.

Its fully automatic V-belt transmission gives seamless ‘twist and go’ acceleration – and the fuel injected engine’s extremely quiet operation and low fuel consumption make the X-MAX 125 the ideal urban and suburban commuter.

Practical and convenient

To accommodate riders of varying sizes we’ve equipped the X-MAX 125 with an adjustable screen, as well as handlebars that offer a choice of two positions – with forwards and backwards adjustability – allowing everyone to select the most ergonomic riding position.

The stylish dual digital instrument pods underline the X-MAX 125’s sporty and comprehensive specification – and between these backlit dials there’s a central LCD display. For added convenience there’s a useful 12V outlet for powering personal electronic devices while you’re on the move – located in the front left side storage compartment.

Motorcycle-type front forks

The X-MAX 125 is equipped with motorcycle type telescopic front forks that deliver smooth and controllable suspension action, making this high-specification scooter one of the sportiest performers in the category. Fitted with a lightweight 15-inch front wheel, these 110mm-travel forks help to soak up the bumps to give a smooth and confident ride in the city and on the highway – and they also ensure maximum comfort and controllability during braking and cornering.

Smart Key keyless ignition

To make every ride even more convenient and enjoyable, the X-MAX 125 features a new Smart Key keyless ignition system. This intelligent electronic system allows you to activate the ignition without having to find your keys and put them in the ignition.

As long as you have the Smart Key with you, you’ll be able to operate the X-MAX 125 in the normal way, saving you valuable time. It’s another piece of technology that’s designed help make every journey less stressful – and if required, X-MAX 125 riders can also choose to disconnect the Smart Key.

Large storage space for 2 full-face helmets

The latest X-MAX 125 has one of the largest carrying capacities in the class, and on the 2018 model it’s possible to store 2 full-face helmets beneath the seat. Featuring a useful box light, this generous underseat storage compartment underlines the X-MAX 125’s every day practicality and functionality.

Whatever you need to carry, the X-MAX 125 offers one of the biggest storage spaces in the category – and if you need to take even more, you can fit one of Yamaha’s Genuine accessory top cases.

When will Yamaha Import the XMax-300 and Xmax 400 so I can replace my Majesty. Or maybe I’ll get a new Burgman 400.

    • Dave says:

They’re probably waiting for the market to demonstrate that it will consume large displacement scooters in meaningful numbers. Given that Suzuki, Vespa/Piaggio own the market share, they must believe that the piece of it that they could realistically capture isn’t attractive enough.

    • Mindspin says:

2018 XMAX 300 is listed on Yamaha USA website. Sadly only in white so far. Looks like the TMAX may be discontinued in the US or they’re going to bring the new one later.

  2. Mike says:

Will the US get the new 2018 (or at this point, 2018) TMax 530 Scooter?
