Top 5 result for Ferrari in first historical MotoE race

Team Trentino Gresini made its long-awaited debut in the inaugural race of the MotoE World Cup, and it was a good one: Matteo Ferrari leaves Sachsenring with a fifth place in what was a challenging race – as it was the first-ever encounter of the series – held under mixed conditions due to the overnight rain.

The Italian had a blistering start desite a first-turn coming together with an opponent, when both tried to avoid a damp patch. With a strong race pace, Ferrari was only two seconds away from race winner Tuuli to grab 11 important points.

It could have been a good day also for Lorenzo Savadori, who managed to go all the way up to eighth place after starting from the 11thplace on the grid after overtaking several riders, including Granado and Gibernau. Unfortunately a coming together with the Brazilian rider between turns eight and nine resulted in a nasty crash for the former STK1000 champion, which forced race direction to end the race (red flag).

It has been nevertheless a good debut for Team Trentino Gresini, who will return to the track next month in Spielberg, Austria, for round two.
