Wing Command: 2001 Honda Gold Wing Features and Controls

by Dirck Edge

Were you proud of yourself when you learned how to use the buttons near your left handgrip? You know, the turn signals, high/low beam switch, and horn? Maybe these controls aren't intuitive to you, yet. If not, you may be amazed at the controls available to the rider of Honda's new 2001 Gold Wing.

Maybe this is why Gold Wing riders put so many miles on their bikes. Honda's controls are well laid out, but there's lots to learn.

The features on the new Gold Wing rival those of a luxury automobile. We have shown you pictures of the beautiful new Wing before, and we wanted to show you just some of the controls available to the rider and passenger.

One of the more interesting features is the computer-controlled, adjustable hydraulic rear suspension preload -- remotely controlled by the rider, and featuring two-position memory (preset for rider only and rider/passenger with luggage, for example).

Other control features not found on your run-of-the-mill motorcycle include: (1) all-new, slow-speed electric reverse, (2) all-new, electronic cruise control, (3) manually operated, six-position, ratcheting-windshield, (4) remote locking/unlocking of luggage, (5) Panasonic™ audio system with two, 25-watt stereo speakers (12 FM and 6 AM pre-set stations, weatherband radio, headset-ready intercom, etc., etc.), (6) optional trunk-mounted, six-disc CD changer, (7) optional 25-watt rear speakers and 40-channel CB radio, (8) motorized headlight aiming system (providing 2.5 degrees of adjustment from level). These are just some of the features available on the new Wing.

Take a close look at the pictures, and you will get a feel for the level of luxury offered by Honda's new flagship. Below, we have provided the complete Honda list of Gold Wing features and accessories (courtesy of Honda's press department).
