In Europe, Suzuki's Bandit 600 has been a top seller for several years. Available in two versions, the naked (600) and bikini fairing (600S), this bike has filled a large nitch with its nimble handling and good looks, coupled with adequate in-town engine performance and low price.
The U.S. market benefits from this popularity overseas by receiving the significantly revised 2000 Bandit 600S. A new frame, with longer wheelbase and reduced rake and trail provides improved straight-line stability, yet retains light and responsive steering. Additional weight over the front wheel increases rider control.
The new Bandit also receives improved brakes and larger tires, as well as improved suspension performance.
In the engine department, the bullet-proof air cooled engine has improved low end throttle response and low-to-midrange power due to new carburetors and a throttle position sensor.
Most no tably, the faired version has an entirely new and radical design incorporating greater wind protection and advanced dual headlights.
The new Bandits also have slightly redesigned seating positions for increased rider comfort.
Overall, the new Bandits represent a great bargain on a reliable, fun motorcycle. In the U.S., only the faired GSF 600S is available at an MSRP of $5,799.00.
