David Vuillemin Wins 250, and Roderick Thain Wins 125 Class at Paris Supercross

First of all, we must apologize for a stupid mistake in yesterday’s article. The Paris Supercross consists of three nights of racing, not two. With a total of six 250cc finals (two each night) and nine 125cc finals (three each night), the Paris Supercross rewards consistency as much as speed.

Two Frenchmen, David Vuillemin (crowned King of Bercy – 250cc champion) and Roderick Thain (Prince of Bercy – 125cc champion) were the consistent racers who took the overall victories this weekend.

Vuillemin (Yamaha) defeated Jeremy McGrath (Yamaha) despite McGrath winning five of six finals (he finished 13th in one of the finals, killing his chance at the title).

Thain (KTM) defeated Ernesto Fonseca (Yamaha) in a similar fashion – Fonseca won six of the nine 125cc finals, but, due to crashes, had some very low scoring races – thus he finished second overall.

Kevin Windham (Honda) and Casey Lytle (Kawasaki) rounded out the podium with overall third place finishes in the 250cc and 125cc classes, respectively.

Kawasaki’s Ricky Carmichael had a miserable weekend – breaking his collarbone after a mediocre first day. No word on when Carmichael will be able to race again, but these young riders come back very quickly from broken collarbones, and Carmichael will probably try to ride the opening round of the AMA Supercross series in early January, 2000.
