Triumph has released info about a string of updates to it’s 2005 model lineup. Bikes receiving changes are the Speed Triple, Sprint ST, Daytona 600, Bonneville T100, and Speedmaster.
The classic Speed Triple design gets a bigger, fuel-injected motor for 2005, up to 1050cc and claimed to provide more low-end and midrange power. The power also travels through an all-new gearbox and clutch, and spent gases are expelled via a new, dual high-mount muffler setup. As far as the chassis, new fully-adjustable upside-down forks and radial-mount front brakes should increase the bike’s sporting abilities.
The Sprint ST also gets the new 1050cc motor, gearbox and clutch. In addition, Triumph’s sport-tourer has a completely redesigned frame and front fork for ’05, as well as a few styling changes highlighted by the triple-tipped underseat muffler.
Triumph’s four-cylinder Daytona 600 has always been considered an excellent-handling bike, and for 2005 it should finally have the power to match. Motivation comes from a new 646cc fuel-injected motor, claimed to provide more midrange and top-end power.
The Bonneville T100 retro and Speedmaster cruiser also get a displacement increase for 2005. Both bikes now feature an 865cc air-cooled parallel twin.
Triumph rumors from Intermot? The word is that Triumph is beginning to phase out all four-cylinder bikes, while planning to return to their traditional three-cylinder configuration for all models. Expect the Daytona 650 engine to be replaced again next year, this time by a 750cc triple.
