Spanish rookie Dani Pedrosa continued his impressive form today in the final day of testing at the Sepang Circuit, pushing his Repsol Honda RC211V to record the day’s quickest time – a 2’02.77, just fractionally slower than the 2’02.61 Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi posted yesterday.
While he has shown impressive speed in his first full test aboard a MotoGP machine, the tiny (5’2″, 103lbs) Spaniard may be having some difficulty adapting to the physical demands of the large (compared to his 250), powerful bike. Throughout the test he has ridden only short stints punctuated by periods of recovery time, and in the end he had completed fewer laps than most of the other riders.
Pedrosa will have to work on his conditioning before the start of the season, or he may find himself coming up short at the end of the race. As of now, Pedrosa claims he has not engaged in any type of strength training to prepare for the demands of a MotoGP machine.
