Chad Reed tends to start slowly when the Supercross series rolls around. Last year, Reed came to life after Ricky Carmichael had established a huge points lead. The result? Although Reed won five of the final ten supercross races, Ricky Carmichael walked away with another title.
Last week in Toronto, Reed finished on the podium in third place, but he was well off the pace set by James Stewart and Ricky Carmichael (who finished first and second, respectively). Tomorrow night in Vancouver, Reed has another chance to run the pace of Stewart and Carmichael before the opening round of the AMA Supercross series on January 7, 2006 in Anaheim, California. If Reed hopes to take the AMA Supercross title this year, he better be up to speed at Anaheim. Carmichael and Stewart are already tuned in to a very fast pace, and between them will run away with the points necessary to shut Reed out of the AMA title again this year if Reed repeats his prior pattern. If Reed steps up and battles for the lead tomorrow night in Vancouver, we should be set for one of the best AMA Supercross series ever come January 7.
