Modern Moto Guzzis, with their two-valve, air-cooled motors, are generally not considered “high performance” motorcycles, but that is about to change. How about a more modern v-twin with four valve heads, displacing 1200cc? The Griso 8V introduced in Milan by Moto Guzzi will produce well over 100 horsepower and in the neighborhood of 80 pound feet of torque. By naked bike standards, that’s pretty darn “high performance”. Although Moto Guzzi had previously manufactured an eight valve engine, the Griso 8V features “a completely new engine” according to Moto Guzzi, and we can expect to see this engine used by other models in the future. Other new features on the Griso 8V include radially mounted Brembo brake calipers, a redesigned muffler, and a new seat. Moto Guzzi also states the bar/peg/seat relationship has been changed for improved ergonomics. The bike should be available from May 2007 in Moto Guzzi Red and Black.
Another new model introduced in Milan is the 940 Custom. Displacing 940cc (naturally), according to Moto Guzzi, the 940 Custom is about performance as well as style. The bike is claimed to be nimble and powerful. Expect this model to be value-priced.
Other changes to the 2007 Moto Guzzi line-up are relatively minor, with the exception of a new 850cc version of the sport tourer Norge.
