Three-time AMA Superbike Champion Doug Chandler had a slow start this season – apparently due to set-up problems with his Muzzy Kawasaki. Chandler and his team have got the bike dialed now, however.
This Sunday, July 18 1999, Doug Chandler won his second straight AMA Superbike race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course (Chandler won the last AMA superbike race, held at New Hampshire International Speedway on June 19). Chandler was followed home by Mat Mladin in second place on his Suzuki GSXR750, and Jason Pridmore in third place on a GSXR750 (Pridmore is Mladin’s teammate).
The Ducati’s of Gobert and Bostrom did not fair well at Mid-Ohio — finishing in ninth and tenth place, respectively.
By the way, for the first time this year, Ben Bostrom qualified ahead of Anthony Gobert. Bostrom had the best qualifying time, followed by Doug Chandler and Anthony Gobert.
