The Argentina GP is the last of the year, and it is also meaningless from the standpoint of the championship in both the 500 and 250 classes. The 500 champion this year is Alex Crivillé (Honda), while the 250 champion is Valentino Rossi (Aprilia). Both of these riders clinched the championship with one round remaining.
Nevertheless, the racing should be interesting tomorrow. Kenny Roberts (Suzuki) took pole in the 500 class for the fifth time this year with a blistering track record, nearly half a second faster than second place Tadayuka Okada (Honda). These two will be joined by Alex Crivillé (Honda) and Max Biaggi (Yamaha) on the front row.
Roberts has taken pole more than once without being impressive in the race.
Those of you watching to see whether Anthony Gobert (MuZ) can quickly master the 500 class should know that he qualified seventeenth, twelve positions behind his teammate Jurgen vd Goorbergh.
Tomorrow’s 250 race will see Valentino Rossi (Aprilia) on pole, with Olivier Jacque (Yamaha), Stefano Perugini (Honda) and Sebastian Porto (Yamaha) filling out second through fourth positions on the front row of the grid.
