Suzuki’s Mat Mladin swept pole and victory in the first race at Road Atlanta today in convincing style. Nearly a second faster than everyone else in qualifying, Mladin breezed to victory from start to finish in race one of the weekend double header.
Qualifying outside the first row, but battling up to finish second, was Honda’s Nicky Hayden. Kawasaki’s Eric Bostrom (third quickest in qualifying) finished third in the race. Mladin’s teammate Aaron Yates qualified second, but faded to eighth in the race.
Tomorrow is the second part of the weekend Superbike double header.
In 600 Supersport qualifying, Suzuki’s Aaron Yates was a somewhat surprising quickest ahead of Daytona 600 Supersport winner Kurtis Roberts (Honda). The 600 final is also tomorrow.
