Kawasaki’s Ricky Carmichael became the first rider (other than Jeremy McGrath) in the McGrath era (since 1993) to win three consecutive 250 supercross races, by taking the holeshot at Indianapolis last night and never looking back. McGrath had a decent start, but struggled to get around Yamaha’s Tim Ferry and into second place. By then, Carmichael had pretty much checked out, and Carmichael continued to pull another four seconds on McGrath during the remainder of the race. Carmichael ultimately won by twelve seconds over second place McGrath (Yamaha) and third place Ezra Lusk (Honda). Honda’s Sebastien Tortelli rode a surprisingly strong race to finish fourth just behind Lusk.
Suzuki’s Travis Pastrana won the first East Coast 125cc race of the year over Natham Ramsay who was aboard a Yamaha YZ250F.
Carmichael stretches his 250cc points lead to six over McGrath. Pastrana, of course, takes the initial 125cc East Coast points lead.
