Yamaha’s Max Biaggi rode a blistering lap to take pole for tomorrow’s 500 GP race in France. Defending champion Kenny Roberts, Jr. (Suzuki) appears to be finally gaining the pace, as he put his Suzuki second on the grid, ahead of Honda’s Valentino Rossi.
Yamaha’s Garry McCoy broke a scaphoid bone in a high-side crash during morning practice, and withdrew from the weekend’s activities.
Honda’s Daijiro Katoh, winner of all three events in the 250 class this year, again took pole in France ahead of Aprilia’s Tetsuya Harada.
