Remember a few weeks ago when Colin Edwards was reportedly signed, sealed and delivered to Ducati? Well, if you believe current rumors (and reports) he is unsigned and being courted by no less than three teams, including Ducati (for WSB), a Honda-supported MotoGP team, and the factory Yamaha MotoGP team.
Circumstances conspired to make Edwards a very hot property at the moment. Some were in his control (including, his stunning performance over the past two months in charging to the WSB championship) while others were not.
When Yamaha came “this close” to signing Nicky Hayden to its factory MotoGP team next year (only to lose him to Honda at the last minute), Edwards had good leverage, but now his levarage is great.
It would only make sense that Yamaha would love to have Edwards for two reasons. First of all, he is a great rider with nerves of steel (he proved that this year). Second, he is a Honda champion, and some form of potential redemption for the Nicky Hayden affair.
No matter how this turns out, Colin Edwards should have a nice, fat contract for next year before too long. He sure deserves it.
