After the way Aprilia’s Ivano Beggio gobbled up the Moto Guzzi and Laverda trade names a few years ago, we figured that big players (including the Japanese) would be interested in buying the Indian trademark, which is now for sale. Apparently, not.
Although Indian has recently sold its hard assets (motorcycles, equipment, etc.), negotiations over the sale of the trade name “Indian” continue, with none of the major players (i.e., major motorcycle manufacturers) apparently bidding. Indian is one of the great American motorcycle brand names. Hard to understand.
