Young Kevin Strijbos, teammate to Joel Smets on the Suzuki MX1 World championship motocross team, won a moto on the RM-Z450 earlier today in France at one of the World championship “warm-up” races. Strijbos had just taken delivery of the latest prototype and reportedly was very pleased with its performance.
The race in France was in very muddy conditions (see photo). Teammate Smets is nursing a knee injury from his crash a couple of weeks ago, but expects to be ready for the opening round of the World championship a month from now in Belgium. World champion Stefan Everts, and other top riders, attend these warm-up events, so Suzuki’s success is notable for such a new bike.
There has been some speculation that Suzuki will try to race the RM-Z450 at the US Nationals beginning in May . . . perhaps, with Sebastien Toretlli aboard.
