After rain interrupted the Mugello MotoGP race with just a few laps remaining, the race was re-started for a six-lap sprint to the finish. What resulted was one of the most exciting MotoGP races in memory, with several riders taking the lead during the brief sprint.
In the end, the same riders who led before the re-start reached the podium, with Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) taking the victory over second-place Sete Gibernau (Honda) and third-place Max Biaggi (Honda).
