Metal Mulisha co-founder Brian Deegan has long been a controversial figure in the MX industry, but no one can dispute his concern for his injured friend Chris Ackerman. Chris received a serious spinal cord injury in March of 2003 while riding at Dumont Dunes with a group of freestylers and Metal Mulisha members. Since then he has been through a long road of ups and downs, but he is fighting towards recovery with incredible tenacity.
Anyone who watched last summer’s X Games IX in LA might remember Deegan dedicating his win to Chris, who was in attendance in a wheelchair with a doctor in tow. I just found out that Deegan has made another incredible move in support of Chris: this week he sold his custom-built, one-of-a-kind Jesse James/West Coast Choppers CR250 in an eBay auction to raise money for Chris’ medical bills. Check out the bike here –. Deegan was able to get $11,100 for this rolling piece of art, all of which will go directly to support Chris.
