Suzuki Redesigning Bandit Nakeds for 2005?

A rumor has surfaced that Suzuki will be updating its Bandit line, currently consisting of the Bandit 600 and Bandit 1200 naked bikes, for the model year 2005. If so, expect much more modern, liquid cooled engines to power a 600cc and 1000cc naked. The 1000 could receive a version of the GSX-R1000 engine (perhaps, from the first generation of that model introduced a few years ago).

Suzuki, to some extent, touched off the current interest in nakeds among other Japanese manufacturers by bringing the 1200cc Bandit to market in the 1990s. Since then, more modern nakeds have been introduced by Yamaha, Kawasaki and Honda. Of course, Ducati has been manufacturing the very European Monster V-twin for quite some time, but the Japanese seemed uninterested in the naked market until the Bandit 1200 brought attention to in-line, four-cylinder power in a large-displacement naked.

If the revised Bandits do appear this year, expect to see them announced in September.
