I took the family to the local motocross track tonight. Three bikes, three riders, and sixty dollars for the privilege of cruising around on a practice track. Sixty dollars!
This is Southern California where empty space is rapidly being gobbled up by developers. It is getting harder and harder to ride without going to a motocross track where you have to pay an entry fee. I am not talking about a weekend trip, just a late afternoon ride during the workweek. Something close.
I did a little math. If I took the same three riders and bikes to the track four times a week, that would be $240.00 — roughly $1,000 per month. Crazy.
There is a desperate need for places to ride dirt bikes near metropolitan areas. Places that don’t cost $20.00 a ride. Insurance costs have something to do with this, of course, but it is still outrageous, although no doubt typical of many tracks around the country.
