Former Dakar Rally winner Fabrizio Meoni was killed today when he crashed his Gauloises KTM while competing in Stage 11 of this year’s Dakar Rally. Motorcycle Daily offers our deepest sympathy to his family and friends. KTM’s press release regarding Meoni’s crash follows:
SAD DEATH OF FABRIZIO MEONI
Fabrizio Meoni died during stage 11 of the Dakar Rally today.
According to the A.S.O., Meoni crashed just after CP 1. When the doctors arrived 20 minutes later, Meoni’s heart had stopped beating and attempts at resuscitation failed.
Fabrizio Meoni was 47-years old. For 18 years he participated in rallies on a KTM motorcycle. He won the Dakar Rally both 2001 and 2002. It was Fabrizio’s 13th time competing in the toughest desert rally in the world.
