Official Kawasaki websites in Europe have announced a new 2007 model — the Versys. Powered by a tuned-for-torque version of the 649cc parallel twin engine found in the U.S. Ninja 650R, the Versys is essentially a supermoto. Featuring long-stroke suspension (including fully-adjustable, upside-down forks), the Versys is primarily a street weapon, but can handle the occasional rough stuff, as well.
Versys is short for Versatile System, according to Kawasaki, and is “built to attack the roads you ride, from city streets to mountain passes, and everything in between”.
Kawasaki has published very few specifications at this point. It doesn’t look like the Versys is headed for the U.S. market — but that could change.
