Honda and Yamaha Continue to Dominate as Sepang Test Ends

If you weren’t on a Honda or a Yamaha, you didn’t make one of the top seven lap times on the final day of testing at Sepang.  Marco Simoncelli was the fastest Honda and quickest overall today.  The young rider (who finished just behind Ben Spies in the Rookie of the Year competition last year), bested fellow Honda rider Casey Stoner by less than 1/10th of a second, while Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo posted the third quickest time.  Ben Spies (Yamaha) was in the fifth spot, while Ducati riders Nicky Hayden and Valentino Rossi posted the 8th and 10th quickest laps.  Interestingly, a large number of riders were inside the pole lap posted by Jorge Lorenzo last year at this track.

It’s good to be optimistic, and when there’s little or nothing of interest on TV, we all look forward to a season of exciting MotogP, but…

last year was as dull a spectacle as I can ever remember, with maybe two decent overtakes at most races. The riders and teams might have changed, but the single-racing-line requirements of current MotoGP bikes makes it unlikely that it will be much better.

    Moto2, on the other hand….

I too think this will be one of the best race seasons in recent years. So many of the racers, six to eight I believe, will battle for the championship. And watch Ben Spies, he’ll be in the top three. If he can’t do it this year, wait until next year when MotoGP goes to 1000cc bikes that fit him and his style better. His racecraft is so methodical and meticulous that he will reach his goal and make us American fans proud. I am worried about Rossi also. It has to be more than his shoulder and mind games. All the Ducs aren’t doing very well. Perhaps Stoner was the only rider that could win a championship on the desmosedici. Now that I worked myself into a frenzie I think i’ll go for a ride. It’s cold but dry (for now) here in Oregon.

Agreed. So excited I can taste it! A apprehensive about Rossi’s shoulder. Hope it heals up well before the season begins, I’m hoping to see him do really well with the Ducati. Ben Spies will be in the mix, I’m convinced. Going to be great fun this year, I hope the racing is close!

Wow, first post. I’m so excited.

Seriously, I’m hoping for a great season. Stoner, Rossi and Lorenzo will be duking it out. Pedrosa and a few other (I’m hoping for Spies) might be in as well. The long, cold non-racing season is nearly over, yippee.
