The MotoGP championship visited the Sepang circuit in Malaysia this past weekend. Early indications pointed to a dominant performance by Pecco Bagnia (Ducati) similar to his weekend in Japan a month ago.
Bagnaia took pole position and then proceeded to take a comfortable win in the Sprint race on Saturday. Alex Marquez (Ducati) and Pedro Acosta (KTM) finished the Sprint on the podium behind Bagnaia.
Sunday’s full-length race saw Bagnaia near the front, once again, but Alex Marquez led most of the race while Bagnaia seemed to be managing a gap of less than one second behind him. At some point, Bagnaia began to have trouble with his bike’s handling, and several laps later was forced to retire with a puncture of his rear tire. At this point, he was running in third position behind Acosta.
Sunday’s final podium consisted of Alex Marquez in first, Acosta in second and Joan Mir (Honda) in third.
