Method Man

Is it purely coincidence that Jeremy Burgess has been crew chief to both Mick Doohan and Valentino Rossi or, does the man know what he is doing? Of course, Jeremy Burgess knows what he is doing . . . exactly what he is doing.

Indeed, when Yamaha got Valentino Rossi, they also got Jeremy Burgess, but without all the fanfare. In many ways, the acquisition of Burgess and his crew in support of Rossi is just as significant as the acquisition of Rossi. Burgess has a method of preparing motorcycles to win GP races, a method honed with Mick Doohan and Valentino Rossi at Honda (resulting in 8 World titles in the premier class).

In an interview just published in Roadracing World, Burgess says the Yamaha M1, and Rossi, are ready to win. This would be to the great disappointment of Honda, of course, but to no one’s real surprise if it proves to be true. After all, it would be par for the course for Burgess to win yet another World title, and he clearly expects nothing less.

We shall see how things go this weekend at the opening MotoGP race in South Africa.
