Ever wonder if Ferrari makes money building extremely-limited edition automobiles, such as the spectacular Enzo? Of course it does. It simply raises the price high enough to make the limited series worthwhile.
When Ducati brings its $50,000 Desmosedici road bike to market in 2006, it plans on turning a good profit as well. Ducati figures it has the cachet in the two-wheel world that Ferrari has in the automobile world. At $50,000 a copy, you don’t need to sell very many V-4 Desmosedici machines to create a return on the investment made by Ducati in development of the road-going version of its MotoGP bike. Expect more and more limited edition specials from Ducati. It’s proving to be good business.
