St. Louis Supercross Results

The AMA Supercross Series visited St. Louis, Missouri tonight, and the crowd was witness to quite an upset in the ‘Supercross’ class. The two top championship contenders, Ricky Carmicahel (Suzuki) and James Stewart (Kawasaki) both encountered serious problems – Carmichael pulled off the track on the second lap and was recorded as a DNF, while Stewart crashed in the act of battling with Chad Reed (Yamaha) and struggled to restart his bike (eventually remounting to finish in 17th position).

Finally showing the speed his fans have been expecting, Reed cruised to the win after passing early leader Ivan Tedesco (Suzuki), who finished second. Honda’s Ernesto Fonseca was a distant third, almost 30 seconds adrift.

In the opening round of the East Coast ‘Supercross Lites’ class, it was all Davi Millsaps – the young Honda rider crossed the line over five seconds ahead of Kawasaki’s Chris Gosselaar. Third place went to Branden Jesseman (Yamaha).

His win tonight, combined with the poor showings of the previous points leaders, gives Reed a significant points advantage in the AMA Supercross series – he now has 149 points to Carmichael’s 140 and Stewart’s 132. Millsaps of course leads Gosselaar in the East Coast ‘Lites’ points race.
