The MotoGP series reached the halfway point at Germany last weekend. A counter-clockwise track dominated by Marc Marquez over the years saw him take victory in both races and close in on the championship lead.
On Saturday, Marquez led from pole position and was followed by his brother Alex, also aboard a Ducati, and the duo made it to the checkered flag ahead of Fabio Di Giannantonio (Ducati).
Sunday’s GP race saw the Marquez brothers, once again, first and second through the first 10 laps before Alex crashed (unhurt). Marc Marquez cruised to the victory with a battle behind him between the Aprilia mounted Ai Ogura and Raul Fernandez. Ogura ultimately pulled a gap to take second, with Fernandez in third.
Previous points leader Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia) broke his collarbone during qualifying and did not race. We understand he has undergone successful surgery and is expected back at the next round following the summer break.

Once again, Trackhouse did a fantastic job. Not just for a new team, which they are. An unqualified fantastic job.
This track does have a peculiar layout. A lot of the ice racers used to ask me to incorporate a big giant funny shaped dogleg on the track. I found that they are kind of fun to ride. But almost no passing happens there. The track also breaks a lot of ice racetrack rules. You might think that general ice race track rules don’t matter. But they do. Look at the number of corners that are under 90 degrees for instance. Every one of them would create a big rut on an ice race track because there is only one line. Well, if there is only one line. You are not going to be able to pass anybody there. The cool thing about building a track or two every year is that you learn alot about layouts that are fun to ride, fun to watch, and remain durable. Another sin of this track layout are all those hairpins packed into one spot. That’s probably fun to ride. But they are too close together to setup a pass. You want to give the guys a little room between those types of corners to line up their pry.

Agree with that. Marc Marquez “owns” this place. He has enough race craft, experience, skill and top notch equipment to continue to rule this track into his 40’s. What is the point of keeping it in the schedule now that he has displayed his dominance of generations of competitors ? Please end this event from the schedule MOTO LIBERTY.

I remember when DOTA had never been won by anybody but Marquez.I was there the first time he didn’t win. You really think the track should leave the series? Do you think MM would’ve won on Honda?

Riders are temporary in the long run. It’s incumbent on others to try to beat him, and they will eventually. The track will be here and in use long after Marquez is gone if racing can stay healthy enough.

What a snooze fest, both races. Follow the leader with nearly zero overtaking. Sunday’s race had one overtake after the first lap. That was it. Hopefully things get better next year or they should leave this track off the schedule.
